In October of 2020, during an unrivaled global pandemic, Studio Thirty-Six Annapolis opened its doors. Though this was a difficult time for businesses around the world, this was not the first hardship this team had faced.
The Studio Thirty-Six name has significant meaning to the owners and team. Most who work here have worked together for over 11 years. Their previous employers, who were the owners of once highly regarded David Alexander Salon and Spa in Annapolis, MD, closed their doors unexpectedly on the morning of Tuesday, September 24th, 2019. The owners fled in the night taking with them the last three weeks of their employees income as well as much more. With client appointments scheduled weeks out, the team had little time to act. Nicole White, Stacey LaRochelle, Zachary Heil, Neil Rohrbaugh, and Jesus Marroquin acted promptly and within thirty six hours started operating in a new location, renting a local studio in the Annapolis area. During this time the team was fortunate to have the help of their previous supervisor, Kelly Henderson, who guided them through the operations of what happens behind the scenes of a salon. In just over a brisk five months the world was stormed with the COVID-19 virus. On March 12th, 2019 residing Governor Larry Hogan closed all non-essential businesses in Maryland. This shutdown lasted eleven weeks for salon services in the Anne Arundel County area. During this time all government assistance had been denied. Once operations were able to proceed, the capacity limits were less than half of normal operations. At the end of the studio lease the team came to be in what is now Studio Thirty-Six. Fortunately their move returned them to the same street the team had worked on for years where David Alexander had previously been. This new space was designed with COVID-19 social distancing precautions in mind and a vision to showcase their strength, their resilience, and their pride they carry for the Studio Thirty-Six name.
The Studio Thirty Six staff is internationally trained with the L’Oréal Professional brand, the first permanent hair color to ever be created in 1909. Having traveled to France, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, and throughout the United States, this team has worked one on one with international stylists known throughout the world. These opportunities have allowed some of the team to become educators and artists within the L’Oréal brand, teaching salons throughout the nation and thus receiving the latest hair trends and techniques from international leaders. Multiple artists within the Studio Thirty Six team have participated in New York fashion week and have had features including Vogue as well as multiple local magazines such as ‘What’s Up?’ and ‘UpStart’.
Studio Thirty-Six is filled with bright natural light having windows all around. Over flowing plants create a sense of peace and serenity. Their warm hearted staff are more family than coworkers and they embrace every client as if they have been a part of their family for years. You may receive services from a specific stylist, but your experience is spent with the entire team.
IT'S NOT JUST A SALON, IT'S AN EXPERIENCE.
